Role Overview As a Research Engineer, you will be on the cutting edge of applied research and technology development at TNO. Your primary focus will be on the processing and recycling of thermoplastic composites, using innovative techniques such as mechanical recycling and additive manufacturing.
This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for the execution of research projects from start to finish. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to conduct experiments, analyze data, and propose innovative solutions.
- Project Execution: Conduct recycling trials, develop new processing methods, and create test samples and demonstrator parts.
- Hands-On Research: Perform a variety of experiments including extrusion, mechanical testing, and material characterization.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain and operate state-of-the-art processing and characterization facilities, collaborating with equipment suppliers as needed.
- Process Optimization: Support the development of new processes and propose optimized solutions to meet customer needs.
- Reporting & Collaboration: Present research findings through presentations and written reports, guide students in the lab, and work proactively with project teams.
Functie-eisen
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Applied Science, or Materials Science.
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polymers, including their processing and characterization.
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills. You should be a proactive team player who is result-driven and customer-oriented.
- Language: Fluent in spoken and written English. Dutch fluency is preferred but not required.
- Mindset: An open, creative, and pragmatic individual with a strong sense of curiosity and a drive to implement knowledge into real-world solutions. Experience in multidisciplinary research projects is essential

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

It concerns a secondment agreement at TNO in Geleen via Yacht for one year, with possibility of extension; for 40 hours per week (working on site).
We offer a competitive package of employment conditions according to the seniority of the position (salary between €3500 - €6000 -gross per period of 4 weeks, based on 40 h per week).
