As a Usability Engineer at Philips, you play a pivotal role in the future of minimally invasive surgery. You will be integrated into the iApps organization, where we develop sophisticated software that provides real-time guidance to clinicians during complex procedures.

Your mission is to ensure that these high-stakes medical devices are not only innovative but inherently safe and intuitive. You will act as the bridge between complex engineering and clinical reality, conducting workflow analyses and usability evaluations to ensure our technology supports the doctor’s focus rather than distracting from it. By delivering critical usability evidence, you help steer our products through rigorous regulatory landscapes (FDA/IEC) and directly contribute to improved patient outcomes worldwide.

Functie-eisen

  • Educational Background: A Master’s or PhD in Human-Technology Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Multiple years of experience in usability engineering specifically for Class II (or higher) medical device software. Deep familiarity with IEC 62366-1 and FDA Human Factors guidance is non-negotiable.
  • Domain Knowledge: Significant experience in medical imaging and an understanding of clinical workflows within Image Guided Therapy (e.g., Cardiology, Radiology, or Neurology).
  • System Complexity: Proven ability to work on integrated systems where hardware and software must function in perfect harmony.
  • Language: Excellent command of both verbal and written English to navigate international documentation and stakeholder meetings.

Competenties

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to deconstruct complex clinical workflows into clear, actionable design requirements.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: A natural ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, from R&D Engineers and Clinical Scientists to Marketing and Service teams.
  • Documentation Excellence: Precision in technical writing, ensuring all usability evidence is robust enough to pass strict regulatory audits.
  • Empathy & Observation: A "user-first" mindset, with the ability to observe clinical environments and identify potential risks or inefficiencies that others might miss.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Moving beyond identifying "what's wrong" to proposing "how to make it right" within the constraints of medical safety standards.
