Join the Philips Physics, Materials & Chemistry Group (PM&C) as a highly-skilled Analytical Chemist in Drachten, Netherlands. You'll be a key expert, specializing in LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), to ensure the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of Philips' cutting-edge medical devices and personal health products.

This is a critical, hands-on role where your expertise will directly translate chemical insights into practical, safe product solutions. You will be instrumental in material characterization, contamination analysis, and supporting global regulatory submissions (e.g., REACH, RoHS, FDA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Expert Analysis & LC-MS Focus: Perform advanced material characterization on polymers, coatings, adhesives, and more. A strong emphasis will be on utilizing and troubleshooting LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) techniques.
  • Diverse Analytical Techniques: Apply a range of sophisticated instruments including GC-MS, ICP-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, and TGA to solve complex chemical problems.
  • Method Development & Validation: Design, develop, and validate new analytical methods tailored to specific project needs, ensuring high accuracy and reproducibility according to industry standards.
  • Advisory & Collaboration: Act as the chemical expert, advising multidisciplinary teams (R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Toxicology, Biocompatibility) on chemical compatibility, degradation mechanisms, and material lifetime performance.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Document all findings clearly, write concise technical reports, and present complex results effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Support: Stay current with and support compliance efforts for global chemical regulations (REACH, RoHS).

Competenties

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s or PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of professional experience in Analytical Chemistry, with a minimum of 1-3 years specifically focused on LC-MS.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience with advanced analytical techniques, including a strong command of LC-MS, as well as proficiency in techniques like GC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, and TGA.
  • ​​​​​​​Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret complex chemical data and translate it into actionable insights for product development and safety.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge (The 'Plus') 

  • Familiarity with the chemical behavior of common materials such as polymers, coatings, and adhesives.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety, risk assessment, and relevant regulatory environments (REACH, RoHS, FDA).
  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, pharmaceuticals) is a significant advantage.
  • Language: Fluency in English (required). Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
