We are currently seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join the Execution Systems Department in Leiden. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge biotech production, working alongside 60 dedicated automation professionals in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
The MAM-ES (Manufacturing Automation & Execution Systems) team is responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of GxP-compliant computerized systems and automation infrastructure at the Leiden site. Our mission is to drive consistency, efficiency, and innovation across all manufacturing processes by implementing standardized, recipe-based automation solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and commission Siemens PLC (TIA Portal) and SCADA (Wonderware) changes on production equipment in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Manage and coordinate activities with vendors, subcontractors, and technical integrators.
  • Execute and lead automation changes and modifications within a high-performing team.
  • Develop, execute, and review test plans, commissioning protocols, and validation documents to ensure GAMP-compliant implementation of automation systems.
  • Maintain and update system lifecycle documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.

Functie-eisen

  • A Bachelor’s or higher degree (HBO-level minimum) in Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with a strong understanding of GAMP regulations and automation compliance.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with Siemens PLC (TIA Portal) and Wonderware SCADA systems.
  • Strong ability to interpret control philosophies and author Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS).
  • Familiarity with OSIsoft PI Historian and a solid understanding of P&IDs, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Dutch is a Plus.
  • Certifications: VCA and NEN 3140 are mandatory.
