For our client TNO (Sustainable Process & Energy Systems (SPES) department) we are looking for an experienced Lab Technician / Laboratory Researcher Sustainable processes to join their team in Rijswijk!
Sustainable Process & Energy Systems (SPES) department of TNO is at the forefront of the energy and chemical industry's transition, focusing on critical areas like new feedstocks, renewable energy, process efficiency, circularity, and carbon capture.
You'll play a vital role in their cutting-edge projects, particularly within their growing Circular Plastics and Biomass Valorization programs. These initiatives are dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of chemicals and plastics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting laboratory-scale organic chemistry experiments.
- Building experimental setups and performing measurements in their lab and at client sites.
- Analyzing experimental products and meticulously reporting your findings.
- Collaborating with scientists to design and execute basic test sets
You'll be an integral part of the lab team, contributing directly to projects like:
- VoltaChem: Driving the electrification of industry.
- Biorizon: Converting second-generation biomass into valuable building blocks.
Functie-eisen
Requirements:
- HBO degree in Organic Chemistry, with strong affinity for chemical engineering or process technology.
- You are familiar with different DSP (downstream processing, purification) methodologies.
- Preference for additional experience with analytical chemistry, like GC, LC, FTIR, thermal analysis.
- You have at least 5 years of working experience in a process laboratory environment or equivalent (including operating larger bench scale research setups in a laboratory setting).
- Interest and affinity with process equipment, such as pressurized flow units.

- You have affinity with recycling of plastics and the biobased material transition.
- You have a very hands-on mentality, and are very comfortable with working in a lab and with chemicals.
- You can work independently in a lab environment.
- You have a high safety awareness for working with chemicals.
- Based on the input from our scientists, you are able to set up a basic set of tests as well as executing those. You are used to analyzing the product and reporting the experiments performed.
- You have good communication & reporting skills, also in the English language.
- A drive to develop innovative solutions to technically challenging problems by combining the right mix of intellectual curiosity and a pragmatic approach.
- Flexibility to also work in our Bergen op Zoom location when needed.
Arbeidsvoorwaarden
We offer a challenging position in which you can work in a dynamic environment, guaranteeing diversity in your work and creating plenty of opportunities for personal development. It concerns a secondment agreement at TNO via Yacht for one year, with possibility of extension; for 40 hours per week (working on site).
We offer a competitive package of employment conditions according to the seniority of the position (salary between €3800 - €4500 - gross per period of 4 weeks, based on 40 h per week).

32-40 hours a week
