Are you an enthusiastic and motivated HBO or university student with a background in molecular biology, virology, microbiology, or a related field? Then this internship at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Leiden could be the perfect opportunity for you! We are currently looking for a dedicated intern to join our Quality Control (QC) team, which focuses on testing for adventitious viruses and mycoplasma.
This is a full-time internship (32–40 hours per week) with a minimum duration of 6 months, starting preferably in September 2025. You’ll be working in a state-of-the-art QC laboratory that plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of our pharmaceutical products.

• We are looking for an HBO or WO student in the fields of molecular biology, biotechnology, virology, microbiology, or related topics.
•  You have practical experience in the lab, preferably in molecular biology (DNA and RNA).
•  Fluency in English is required, both verbally and in writing
•  You have knowledge of MS office and preferably some experience with sequencing data analysis
•  Able to work independently and ask for help when needed.
•  Able to communicate clearly and collaborate with other team members.
•  High degree of accuracy and organization in the laboratory.
•  Proactive and continuous improvement mindset.

You will work on a project aiming at designing a new QC method to detect viral contaminants in
the production process of biological medicines. This method is based on Next-Generation Sequencing
technology.

• Perform experiments in the laboratory.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all experiment procedures, results and deviations.
• Analyze data and think of new experiments.
• Read scientific literature and gather information about different methods and results.
• Create training materials.
• Design a kanban system for lab consumables.
• Possibility to write a thesis.
