We have an internship position available for enthusiastic and driven students within the Drug Product Development and Delivery Department of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Leiden, where we develop future gene and cell therapies. We are looking for an enthusiastic student for 40 hours per week. The duration of an internship is at least 4 months, preferably 5-6 months. The preferred start date is September 2025. Exact start and end dates are negotiable.

€650 gross per month (based on 40 hours)

Leiden, The Netherlands

We are currently looking for a student who meets the following criteria:

  • Master’s student pursuing Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering/science disciplines.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience with for instance Solidworks, Matlab, Python is considered a plus
  • Available for minimal 32 hours (preferably 40 hours)

The main objective of this internship is to model a critical process step involving a new mixing system. The model is predominantly multiphase involving viral particles/cells, media and air, with defined material properties and volume fractions.
Below are some expected model outputs:
- Time required for attaining homogeneity;
- Shear generated due to mixing;
- Assessment of foam generated during mixing.

You will be working and collaborating with a team of experienced scientists that are supporting and supervising your work. In this internship, you will learn about the manufacturing of state-of-the-art gene and cell therapies and how CFD is used to predict process parameters and deep dive into the unit operations for troubleshooting and process understanding.

  • Drug Product Development and Delivery is a global team at J&J Innovative Medicine with several locations in Europe, North America and Asia. In Leiden, we are working on the development of future gene and cell therapies.
