Software Development Engineer – System Test Automation

The Software Development Engineer (System Test Automation) designs, develops, and maintains automated tests and supporting tools to verify the quality and reliability of Philips Image Guided Therapy (IGT) systems. This role focuses on seamlessly integrating automated testing into the system verification process to reduce lead times, maximize test coverage, and ensure consistent system-level performance. By driving early defect detection and preventing critical issues, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, high-quality medical systems.

You will collaborate closely with system testers, developers, and framework (enabler) teams to create maintainable automation solutions aligned with product requirements and medical verification standards. Additionally, you will contribute to the evolution of our test infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and cross-domain alignment between manual and automated testing.

Functie-eisen

  • Domain Expertise: Act as the technical subject matter expert and coach for the system test automation domain, guiding team members in best practices for scripting, framework usage, and automation standards.
  • Goal Setting: Partner with the team to define test automation and quality goals, driving continuous improvement and engineering excellence through structured processes and rigorous reviews.

Automation Development & Execution

  • Test Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using frameworks such as FAST (internal Philips tool), Reqnroll, and C#, integrating them seamlessly with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, VTP).
  • Infrastructure Collaboration: Partner with the Enablers team to request, validate, and integrate automation keywords, adapters, and tools required for robust test execution.
  • Execution & Maintenance: Execute automated tests across multiple physical and virtual system configurations to assess reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Flakiness Reduction: Analyze and optimize automated test performance, identifying and resolving script instability or "flakiness" to improve execution speed and accuracy.

Reporting, Quality & Compliance

  • Data-Driven Insights: Integrate test results with reporting tools (e.g., Companion RV&S, ADS dashboards) to enable continuous, real-time visibility into system health and coverage metrics.
  • Code Quality: Participate in and lead peer reviews of test scripts and frameworks to ensure code quality, consistency, maintainability, and reusability.
  • Innovation: Stay current with emerging test automation tools and technologies (e.g., SenseUI, logging-based automation), incorporating innovative methods to improve efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrate sound engineering judgment in selecting automation methods to ensure stable, fully validated test evidence in a highly regulated healthcare environment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Domain Alignment: Collaborate across system test domains (Acquisition, Positioning, Viewing, etc.) to align automation coverage and prevent overlap or redundancy.
  • Release Readiness: Contribute to critical cross-functional initiatives, including mainline verification readiness and continuous nightly regression testing cycles.

Competenties

Test Automation Frameworks: Proficiency with Reqnroll, NUnit, Cucumber, or equivalent BDD/TDD frameworks.

Programming Languages: Strong development skills in C#, Gherkin, Python, or similar languages.

Automation Design: Proven experience in test case conversion, keyword-driven automation, and UI/adapter-based testing.

CI/CD & DevOps: Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Git, and VTP pipelines.

Testing Methodologies: Deep understanding of system testing, regression testing, performance, and reliability testing.

Version Control & Architecture: Strong grasp of Git-based workflows, code review practices, and reusable, scalable test architecture design.

Global Communication: Excellent communication skills with a track record of successful cross-site collaboration (e.g., Best, Bangalore, Suzhou) and stakeholder alignment.
