This is an exciting opportunity to develop and design new automated planning and production tools for a fast-paced, high-throughput LEAN manufacturing group. At Agilent Technologies, we are looking for a software engineer to provide design and automation engineering support for our exciting Chemical Analysis business as well as new lines of business currently in development. Located in Newport, DE this Chemistries business is an industry leader in both market share and performance. We are looking for a dynamic individual who has proven technical leadership abilities and soft skills to support the existing product lines and to design and deploy new planning and automated processes for existing and new products.

In this position you will design, develop and implement new automated systems and tools that interface with systems like SAP to enable data gathering needed for producing chemical analysis consumables. The ideal candidate will have experience developing automation software/systems and interacting with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). The candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in selection and integration of databases, software applications and networking, as well as the creation of associated software which will be used in a chemical product manufacturing environment.


Responsibilities will include

  • Develop and maintain automated programs and scripts for the ERP and MES systems.

  • Develop custom software solutions for various needs, such as data acquisition and data analysis

  • Thoroughly document all aspects of the automated systems, in compliance with ISO9001 standards.

  • Creates reusable, extendable and sustainable automation suites.

  • Support business goals by establishing technical project objectives aligned to meet the short- and long- term goals of new and existing product line needs.

  • Driving projects through all aspects of the design process.

  • Works with team to ensure appropriate level of testing has been completed prior to implementation of change

  • Analyze, design, and execute design of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) solution including related business processes using the MES framework.

  • Digitalize manufacturing processes to enhance standardization, transparency and controllability

  • Architecture and design of data systems for capturing and displaying of Manufacturing relevant information based on SAP ME/MII as well as its analysis and triggering the appropriate actions

  • Create software that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable

  • Collaborate with worldwide MES team


Required qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Equivalent

  • Basic understanding of SAP, ERP and SPC in industrial manufacturing.

  • Experienced in relational database design, SQL development, version control, automated software production and test systems and software platforms.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience.

  • Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex software systems and equipment problems and perform complex system tests.

  • Creative thinking skills.

  • Proficiency in C, Python, JavaScript and VBScript.

  • Demonstrated ability in: customer satisfaction; quality control; process management;

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in: Organization and planning; Judgment; Relationship Management, Conflict Prevention

  • Excellent communication skills up and down organizational levels.

  • Experience working on large projects

  • Understanding of SAP, ERP and SPC in industrial manufacturing.

  • Highly proficient in both spoken and written English

  • Willing to work (From office of from home) outside of st. office hours


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in manufacturing environments.

  • Exposure to web technologies (e.g. HTTP, XML, REST, HTML, etc…)

  • Experience implementing and supporting MES systems

  • Experience in PLC Programming

  • Experience with Software Validation

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Experience with version control software.
