Leiden site Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) is part of the global MSAT
organization. We manage the technology platform strategy within Leiden, supporting
Vaccines, Lentivirus and Large Molecule production.

At MSAT, we are responsible for Validation and Standardization of Equipment for New
Product Introduction and process validation activities for Life Cycle Management (LCM).
The Process Analytics team tests and implements new process (analytical) technology
(PAT), owns the technical expertise for process modelling, and drives the adoption of
these on site. We strive for hands-free, fully automated, continuous biopharmaceutical
production processes!

To accelerate the deployment of modeling capabilities, we want to strengthen our team
with a Process Analytical Technology & Process Modeling intern.

€650 gross per month (based on 40 hours)

This internship position is open to BSc or MSc students who are enrolled in an
Engineering, Biotechnology, Data Sciences, Applied Sciences, or related degree with
strong focus on modeling/statistics or equivalent and are looking for an internship as a
part of their degree. Your role in the project will be based on your level of experience.
Outstanding students from different backgrounds will also be considered.

We are looking for a candidate with keen interest in new technologies, applied
innovation and digitalization in biopharma. Great interpersonal and communication
skills are also key to manage the different stakeholders in both local and global levels.

The Intern will utilize analytic skills to deliver multivariate process models to support
real-time process monitoring and deployment of process analytical technologies. The
project consists of two phases: (1) optimize current model-based fault detection
capabilities by delivering new model(s) and exploring new opportunities; (2) evaluate
feasibility and deliver a proof-of-concept of a real-time multivariate analysis (MVA)
model utilizing Raman spectroscopy data.

This project will guarantee exposure to different branches of our organization with the
suitable candidate being responsible of delivering conclusions and recommendations
supported by model results. Since this role needs a collaborative effort, change
management and collaboration skills will be required.

You will join a dedicated, internationally oriented and highly skilled Process Analytics
MSAT team. The goal of our team is to deliver analytical capabilities to the business,
fueled by our data assets and cutting-edge technologies. The team has data analysts,
scientists, and engineers working closely together with all our stakeholders.

  • Apply your analytic skills to build and engineer the best datasets for model development using a variety of software applications and business systems, such as SAP, OSIsoft PI, SIMCA, Databricks
  • Optimize models and/or develop from scratch models for monitoring the Leiden site production process
  • Develop/put in practice your technical skills, including Raman spectroscopy technology, spectral data analysis, statistics, Python/SQL, data pipeline building,data preprocessing and transformation, etc
  • Using Data Science and models’ analysis to suggest potential opportunities for gaps and improvements, including automation opportunities in the model development process
  • Participate in interdisciplinary discussions for technology implementation and/or digitalization, and collaborate with different departments to design and deploy the model(s)
  • Develop experience in (Biopharmaceutical) manufacturing within a GMPcregulated environment
