Analytical Development (Early Protein Characterization group)

Location: Leiden


The Early Protein Characterization group is part of the Analytical Development (AD) group and is focused on biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein-based vaccines by employing a broad range of state of the art analytical technologies. The Analytical Development group, which is part of the pharmaceutical and analytical department, has a pivotal role between the regulatory authorities, quality unit, and process development. The AD department works closely together with discovery and other process development groups and provides them with advanced analytical expertise.

Job description:
We are looking for a motivated person who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team. You will be working on protein analytics focused on:

• Applying analytical assays to comprehensively characterize peptide and/or proteins and identify process dependent modifications in their biophysical properties;
• Protein conformation, dynamics and Epitope mapping studies by Hydrogen-Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry
• Formulation and stability studies to identify the optimal formulation for protein vaccine candidate;
• Addressing limitations in analytical assays – method development.

Methods include but are not limited to Chromatography (Size Exclusion, Reversed Phase, Affinity, etc), Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation, Multi angle and Dynamic Light Scattering, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Capillary Electrophoresis, Circular Dichroism, FTIR, Fluorescence and Mass Spectrometry.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master/bachelor student in biophysical, (bio)chemical, biomedical, pharmaceutical or similar field
Experience with proteins and/or analytical assays
Independent and pragmatic
Sociable character
Fluent in English
